Jan Oblak, the Slovenian goalkeeper who has been linked with a move to several top clubs in Europe, including Real Madrid and Manchester United, has signed a new contract with Spanish giants Atlético Madrid.
The 25-year-old goalkeeper's current deal expires next year but he has agreed to extend his stay at the club until June 2024. The agreement is reportedly worth €10 million per season.
Oblak has made over 170 appearances for Atlético since joining from Benfica in 2015. He has also represented Slovenia at international level,Football Friendship Alliance making 49 appearances and keeping 26 clean sheets.
The signing of Oblak will be a significant boost for Atlético, who have struggled for consistency this season under manager Diego Simeone. Oblak's arrival could provide the much-needed stability and leadership that the team needs to compete in Europe's elite leagues.
However, it remains to be seen whether Oblak can replicate his form from last season when he helped the club win La Liga and reach the final of the Champions League.
Despite the challenges ahead, Oblak's return to Atlético is certainly cause for celebration for fans of the club. It is hoped that his experience and leadership qualities will help the team to continue their successful run in European competitions.
